Just Announced—NEW activities, performers, FREE stuff and set times UKE IT OUT 7th annual!

Not since Jake Shimabukuro’s video of him playing While My Guitar Gently Weeps went viral on YouTube has the ukulele world been as excited about a ukulele event as they are about WMNF’s tribute to the ukulele. Hyperbole? Not when it comes to ukulele fans! Developed in the 1880s, the ukulele is based on several small guitar-like instruments of Portuguese origin. Hawaiian musician Israel Kamakawiwo'ole helped re-popularize the instrument, in particular with his 1993 medley of "Over the Rainbow" and "What a Wonderful World," used in films, television programs, and commercials.

12 bands/solos are putting on a ukulele festival Saturday December 3rd at Cage Brewing. Not only will this give you a chance to pull out the Hawaiian shirt you have stashed in the back of your closest—but you’ll have a chance to see some of the best ukulele players all in one spot, on one day.

You’ll hear everything from ukulele Celtic and Bluegrass sounds to Americana and Rock—the little ukulele knows no limits. There will be all kinds of ukuleles in action—bass ukes, electric ukes, banjo ukes, resonator ukes and acoustic ukes.

There will be food, truck-style at Cage Brewing, a vintage Hawaiian shirt booth, classic and cutting edge ukuleles will be everywhere.

NEW! There will be a Jerry Garcia of the Ukulele contest—a friend of the ukulele is friend of mine. Anyone at the show can sign up on the spot and compete for the title and prize. So bring your ukuleles-and your best 2 minute Jimi Jam-and be a part of this event! Here’s the good news—everyone that participates gets a drink ticket and a pass to a future WMNF show. Win or lose you win!!

NEW! Creedence Clearwater Revival fans will be glad that there will be a full audience jam to CCR tunes. Bring your ukulele that’s been at the back of your closet and join in. Every song sounds better on the ukulele.

FREE! We will have FREE ukulele lessons starting at 2:30 for anyone that shows up with a ukulele and wants to learn how to start playing on the ukulele.

FREE! To round out the evening, there will be a chance for up and coming ukulele players to showcase their chops. Participants can sign up for the Show Us Your UKE-- Just sign up when you get to the show—first come first served.

NEWISH In addition, Cage Brewing has built a stage and installed a lighting system—it’s not just a brewery—it’s a concert hall—slight exaggeration, it’s more of a large covered patio than a hall. (There is a hall that goes to the restroom though).

WOOF Bring the well behaved dogs—we love ‘em we pet ‘em!

NEW and FREE—have you heard about the St Pete Sun-Runner a dedicated bus line that runs up and down 1st ave North and South? It’s FREE and stops every 15 minutes—no waiting! AND it stops 2 blocks from Cage Brewing at 22nd Street (Cage is at 20th Street at 1st Ave South) You can find street parking around 32nd street and take the Sun-Runner to 22nd Street and poof! You are at the show in two blocks. Did I mention it’s FREE!
