Arts Alive! podcast: Jenee Priebe, SHINE Mural Festival
The 2024 hurricane season was not kind to Jenee Priebe.
The director of the SHINE St. Petersburg Mural Festival (that’s its full name) had meticulously crafted a schedule of artists and events for the 10th annual celebration of public art, which has become one of the city’s biggest draws. Yes, they come for far and wide to wander the downtown streets and gaze at one brilliant mural after another.
And during SHINE week, when the artists are here and high up on their hydraulic lifts, spectators get to watch real-time creation.
All of this takes a lot of emailing, calling, cross-referencing and planning, and SHINE, under Priebe’s watch, has always operated like a well-oiled machine.
On today’s Arts Alive! podcast, the ever-sunny and optimistic Priebe describes picking up the pieces after Helene and Milton blew away SHINE ‘24’s original dates in early October.
The rescheduled mural festival begins today, and continues through Nov. 17. The whiz-bang SHINE Celebration happens Saturday at FloridaRAMA.
It wasn’t easy, but every artist was able, more or less, to make the new dates.
