Call for photographic artists and other upcoming-art news

The Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, in Tampa’s Rivergate Tower, has issued a Call to Artists for a Spring 2021 exhibit.
Curators of Chef’s Special are asking Tampa Bay photographers, of all ages and skill levels, to make portrait of their favorite chef, barista, brewmaster, restaurant or cafe owner.
The idea is simple, yet terribly effective: To show the faces of the people whose livelihood (although, like the visual arts, not deemed “essential”) has been adversely affected by Covid-19.
“Any style is accepted as long as the photograph features the chef or owner,” reads the entry on the museum’s website. “This can be a traditional portrait or a creative conceptual allegory or everything in between, as long as the subject is clearly visible and recognizable.”
Submission deadline is Jan. 24. All details can be found here.
The other news
Coming Dec. 6-13, the St. Petersburg Art’s Alliance’s Curate St. Pete, a virtual arts fair and silent auction to showcase – and sell – works by local creatives. On the last day, there’ll be a separate live action, with live (virtual) entertainment and more.
Register for both events, and learn everything there is to know, here.
Here’s another reminder about the Keep St. Petersburg Local makers’ market, with locally-made art and other cool stuff, held on the grounds (and partially indoors) during the “first look” at The Factory Saturday, Dec. 12. Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (It’s in the Warehouse Arts District).
Also on the 12th, it’s the monthly Second Saturday ArtWalk from the Arts Alliance. Still trolley-free, but there are more galleries and studios open these days. As with everything these days, it’s a work in progress.
News about this weekend’s outdoor art shows (in St. Pete and Gulfport) will appear Thursday in Your Weekend Arts Forecast.
