Catalyze 2020: Miles Fetherston-Resch

We asked some of St. Pete’s best and brightest citizens to share one catalyzing idea for making St. Pete a better place to live. We asked not for lists of problems, but for meaty, actionable and impactful solutions, no matter how big or how small.

Miles Fetherston-Resch is 7.5 years old and the Founder and CEO of Kids Saving Oceans, a conservation lifestyle brand for both kids and adults that donates a portion of every sale to a local conservation organization. He writes:

I think we can make St. Petersburg a better place to live if each of us planted a tree.

Trees are amazing. Not only are they pretty to look at but they also help with global warming. They are habitats for neat birds and animals! Trees help conserve energy. And I think playgrounds with trees are way better than playgrounds without trees.

I sometimes watch the news with my parents and see a lot of people excited about all the new buildings being built in St. Petersburg. What are we doing to protect our parks and our waterways? We need to do more for our planet. All these buildings will not matter if we do not take care of our earth.

I may only be a kid, but the choices grown-ups are making to take from our environment should not be the inheritance you leave my generation. All of our choices times a lot of people can and will change the world. And can you image if our little world here in St. Petersburg had over 250,000 new trees because everyone planted one? It would make our city healthier, prettier, and a better place to live.
