Community Health Centers of Pinellas, Inc. (CHCP) received $337,400 in funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for Capital Assistance for Hurricane Response and Recovery Efforts (CARE). The funds will be used to strengthen, repair and improve security at five of CHCP’s locations throughout Pinellas County – St. Petersburg, Tarpon Springs, Clearwater and Pinellas Park, as well as fund a few satellite phones for emergencies.

“The impact of hurricanes takes a huge toll on communities and it can take years for communities to recover and get back up on their feet,” said, CHCP Chief Operations Officer Edward Kucher. “We are so grateful to receive the CARE grant so we can recover our buildings quickly and continue to provide the best quality of health care in Pinellas County after hurricanes and other disasters.”

Administered by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), CARE funding will help ensure continued access to quality primary health care services at community health centers in Florida affected by the hurricanes. The funding was made available by the Bipartisan Budget Act, signed by President Trump in February 2018.

“In the aftermath of the hurricanes, we granted affected health centers flexibility in the use of HRSA funds to ensure continuity of services and assist in recovery efforts,” said HRSA Administrator George Sigounas, MS, Ph.D. “This funding is the latest in HRSA’s efforts to support these communities as they continue to recover.”

In total, HRSA awarded nearly $60 million to health centers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, South Carolina and Texas as well as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
