Moffitt, UPC plan to build cancer center and HQ in downtown St. Pete

Moffitt Cancer Center, along with insurance firm UPC and a master developer, is seeking to purchase the entire 800 Block of 2nd Avenue South to create a cancer care facility, a future headquarters building for UPC and a residential tower. 

The city received the $5 million unsolicited offer several weeks ago from the TPA group, which will serve as the master developer, H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute Inc., and UPC, known as United Insurance Holdings Corp. (NASDAQ: UIHC).

Clearwater mourns longtime City Manager Bill Horne

Sunday was a day of mourning for Clearwater city leaders and residents, as it was announced longtime City Manager Bill Horne had unexpectedly passed away Saturday, at age 72.

Horne began his service to the city in 1998 as a general support services administrator before quickly working his way up the city leadership ranks. After a year, he was named assistant city manager and was appointed interim city manager in July 2000.
