St. Pete’s Kawha Coffee and Baseball Hall of Famer David Ortiz team up for children

Kawha Coffee continues to hit home runs for charity, this time through a serendipitous Hall of Fame partnership that provides emergency cardiac care for kids.

Launched in 2006 by husband and wife duo Raphael and Sarah Perrier, Kawha has become an all-star in the world of coffee. The St. Pete-based company is now the largest independent coffee roaster in Florida, with 15 retail locations (and counting). In addition to a large online presence, area hotels, restaurants and 80 Publix grocers now offer Kawha products.

‘Only together will we rise’: Terri Lipsey Scott on plans for new Woodson Museum

The ball started rolling for the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum in the mid 1990s, when the City of St. Petersburg and its Housing Authority were given a Hope VI grant to re-develop the then-60-year-old Jordan Park housing community.

The 7,000-square-foot community center was retro-fitted into a museum honoring the historical contributions of African-Americans.
