State gambling crackdown hits two St. Pete businesses

A St. Petersburg sports bar that advertises live music, food, pool and arcade games had another attraction not mentioned on its website, according to state gambling regulators: 73 illegal slot machines.

The Florida Gaming Control Commission seized the machines and $105,265 from The Zoo Sports Club and Grille, 5111 66th Street N., during a Sept. 10 enforcement action that also targeted Action Arcade, 6541 54th Ave. N.

County elects to hang onto Weedon Island and Shell Key

The Pinellas County Commission has abandoned a proposal to cut Weedon Island and Shell Key Preserves, restoring full funding for the parks to the FY2027 budget.

The Commission held its first public hearing Sept. 10 on its proposed $1.1 billion dollar budget for FY27. Facing a $42 million shortfall next year, among the items previously considered was the defunding of Weedon Island and Shell Key, two County preserves on land leased from the State of Florida.
