Most years, celebrations of the life and legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. include lively parades, group worship ceremonies and community service projects. But while Covid-19 may have pushed many of these festivities into the virtual world, it didn’t stop local leaders from taking to social media to honor King and his mission Monday.
He was skinny as a rail, and weighed maybe 140 pounds soaking wet. Still, to thousands of St. Petersburg and Tampa-area kids in the 1950s, Burl McCarty was the biggest man in town. He was Captain Mac, host of Captain Mac’s Adventure Trails every weekday afternoon at 6 on WSUN, the city’s first television station.
The 2021 Suncoast Tiger Bay Mayor's Forum continued the tradition of bringing together the Mayors of St. Petersburg, Tampa and Clearwater for a start-of-the-year conversation. Rick Kriseman, Jane Castor and Frank Hibbard answered questions from moderator Joe Hamilton and Tiger Bay members.
