Storms support St. Petersburg insurer’s rebirth

While it may seem counterintuitive, a devastating hurricane season helped fuel the launch of a new St. Petersburg-based property insurance company.

Patriot Select Property and Casualty Insurance has risen from the ashes of another local insurer caught in the industry’s previous crisis. The state’s regulatory board approved its business plan Monday.

City purchases storm-damaged home to expand park

After five years of discussions and fruitless negotiations, the City of St. Petersburg will purchase a private residence to expand a multi-use park.

City council members unanimously approved acquiring the property at a storm-induced discount Thursday. Officials will demolish the existing home at 780 58th Ave. NE to facilitate the Puryear Park Expansion Project.
