St. Pete-Clearwater airport will ‘run out of parking’

St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport (PIE) officials are warning local holiday travelers not to park at the increasingly popular facility or risk missing their flights.

The airport, which offers 60 more flights than last Thanksgiving, is experiencing some growing pains. PIE served 2.37 million passengers through October and will likely break its previous year-long record - 2.49 million, set in 2023 - with a month to spare.

Mayor: Rays extension will ‘probably have to happen’

St. Petersburg Mayor Ken Welch believes the Tampa Bay Rays will need to extend their lease at Tropicana Field beyond 2028.

Patrick Zalupski, the team’s new majority owner, caused a stir in early October by announcing plans to open the 2029 season in a new stadium. He acknowledged that the timeline was “aggressive, and perhaps audacious.” Many stakeholders believe it is unfeasible.
