Potential Trop site developer wants Rays to stay

New details are emerging on a $6.8 billion proposal to reimagine prime, underutilized real estate around Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg. 

Many stakeholders thought those plans, unveiled Oct. 3 and now advancing, rejected a new stadium for the Tampa Bay Rays. Dave Bevirt, chief operating officer for Ellison Development, stressed that his firm wants the team to remain part of the Historic Gas Plant District’s redevelopment.

‘An unbelievable blessing:’ Rowdies legend reflects on career

Tampa Bay Rowdies midfielder Leo Fernandes never expected to spend nine years of his life playing professional soccer in St. Petersburg. He also “didn’t have a reason to leave.” 

The Rowdies finished their 2025 season with a 1-1 draw Saturday night in front of a sold-out crowd at Al Lang Stadium, marking the end of an illustrious career for Fernandes. He will now retire as one of the club’s most decorated players.
