$103M investment to transform downtown St. Pete apartments

A $103.4 million financing package has closed for the purchase and renovation of a downtown St. Petersburg apartment building, clearing the way for major improvements to 188 affordable senior apartments.

The building at 518 Third Avenue S., formerly known as the Viridian and now renamed Skye Isle, will undergo a yearlong renovation that includes new plumbing, cooling systems, windows, kitchens and bathrooms. The project will also bring a wellness center and services aimed at helping older residents remain in their homes.

Council to explore creating a voluntary rental registry

St. Petersburg City Council member Corey Givens Jr. believes strongly that tenants should have the same rights as property owners. More so, the City has a responsibility to protect residents from slumlords. 

At its Thursday meeting, the Council unanimously voted to explore the establishment of a voluntary rental registry. Givens submitted the new business item request.
