The St. Petersburg Police Department plans to send community and social service professionals instead of uniformed police officers on some non-violent calls for service, beginning Oct. 1.
“Our citizens are asking for change. The city of St. Petersburg and the police department are ready for that change,” Chief Anthony Holloway said at a Thursday afternoon news conference.
The St. Petersburg City Council has approved a 50-year lease with Orlando Health, the nonprofit that plans to buy Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.
Bayfront is located on city-owned land and the lease approval was needed in order for the hospital’s current owner, Community Health Systems, to sell Bayfront to Orlando Health.
Wednesday on The Catalyst Sessions, prolific St. Pete musician Jeremy Douglass confessed that he’s hardly touched a piano since his first appearance on the interview program, in early April.
