Local developers plan mixed-use West St. Pete project

J Square Developers and Backstreets Capital, which have constructed numerous local townhome communities, will bring a new mixed-use project to West St. Pete. 

The project, dubbed Strum Place, will be built on the corner of Central Avenue and 64th Street N - near a SunRunner bus rapid transit line stop. The plans call for a high-end townhome development and adaptive reuse of an existing structure.

City officials increase housing subsidy by 322%

The St. Petersburg City Council unanimously approved increasing funding, from $2.3 million to $9.7 million, for a long-awaited project that will provide 264 affordable and workforce housing units.

The South St. Petersburg Redevelopment District Fund will provide the additional $7.4 million in tax increment financing. The money will help transform the former Tibbett’s Lumber Company site into the Fairfield Avenue Apartments.
