Sun Bear Coffee Roasters to open first brick-and-mortar

After years of peddling small-batch beans at pop-ups and markets around town, Sun Bear Specialty Coffee Roasters is opening Sun Bear, its first brick-and-mortar cafe.

While the exact opening date is yet to be announced, owner Kenny Beers says that the new shop, at 1942 1st Avenue S. in the Grand Central District, will likely debut in June. His last day at Sans Market, where he has been operating a micro-cafe, will be May 31.

Shore Acres may be granted $2 million for its Denver Street project, part of a comprehensive resiliency program overhauling outdated storm water conveyances, culverts and pipes that have historically led to massive flood damage.

Republican Senator Nick DeCiglie and House Democratic Representative Lindsay cross stepped across party lines, teaming up to advocate for those funds, though ultimately at less than their initial request: $3 million.
