St. Pete Catalyst writer and editor Bill DeYoung with a multi-media program about Tampa Bay’s historic Sunshine Skyway Bridge, before, after – and during – the horrific events of May 9, 1980, when an incoming freighter hit the bridge during a sudden, unanticipated storm. Thirty-five people, 25 of them on a Greyhound bus crossing the Skyway, perished. This event, part of the St. Petersburg Museum of History’s “Happy Hour With the Historian” series, takes place on the 39th anniversary of the tragedy. A veteran newspaper reporter and arts journalist, DeYoung is the author of the books Skyway: The True Story of Tampa Bay’s Signature Bridge and the Man Who Brought it Down and Phil Gernhard, Record Man.
