Join Tombolo Books and the League of Women Voters of the St. Petersburg Area, in partnership with Progress Florida, for an evening with Dr. Sella, author of Beyond Limits. In a conversation led by LWVSPA President Lindsay Polega, Dr. Sella will share reflections from her book and explore the intersection of medicine, policy, and democracy.

Dr. Sella is the first woman in the United States to provide third-trimester abortion care and has spent her career on the frontlines of reproductive healthcare. Beyond Limits is not just a testament to a standard of care grounded in competence, compassion, and sensitivity. It is also a call for a paradigm shift that moves beyond Dobbs, beyond Roe, beyond limits to provide care. And it is a tribute to the real people whose hearts, reasons, and stories are more complex than politicized conversations about abortion lead us to believe.

Please note that space is very limited. We expect this event to fill quickly and anticipate a waitlist. We kindly ask that you only register if you are certain you can attend, so we can make the most of the available seats and accommodate as many interested guests as possible.

Shelley Sella, MD is a board-certified ob-gyn and the first woman to openly practice third-trimester abortion care in the US, which she did for 20 years. She was prominently featured in the Emmy Award–winning documentary After Tiller. Dr. Sella served two terms on the board of the National Abortion Federation and in 2022 was awarded its highest honor, the Christopher Tietze Humanitarian Award. She is retired from clinical practice and now focuses on advocacy.

Lindsay Polega works in complex civil litigation and dedicates much of her time to pro bono legal work.

Over the past two years, she has become deeply involved in reproductive rights advocacy, focusing on education, awareness, and legislative action. She has partnered with local organizations, supported grassroots campaigns, and led community education efforts around the Yes on 4 campaign. She also serves as a lead volunteer attorney with the Jane Network, providing critical pro bono representation to minors navigating time-sensitive reproductive healthcare cases.

Lindsay is President of the League of Women Voters of the St. Petersburg Area and Co-Chair of its Reproductive Rights Committee. She is a 2024 participant in the State Legislative Advocacy Academy through Lawyers for Good Government and was selected for the 2025 League of Women Voters Florida Leadership Program.
