By learning about our past, we give ourselves the knowledge we need to shape a better future - one in which every Floridian of every race - can reach their full potential. This includes understanding Florida's long history of discriminatory laws and policies (especially in criminal justice and tax policy) that have limited the ability to thrive for most Floridians, particularly for Floridians of color.
The Florida Timeline is an ongoing initiative to build community awareness of the shared legacy of unequal opportunity in our state as well as the shared, positive impact that happens when we come together across our differences to create laws and policies that benefit all of us.
Join the Eckerd College St. Pete Center for Civic Engagement and Social Impact and the Florida Policy Institute on October 19, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Fox Hall on the Eckerd College campus for a presentation, panel discussion, and official state-wide launch of the Florida Timeline.
• Understand the connection between the present-day challenges that many Floridians are facing and historical inequities in criminal justice and tax policy
• Hear what experts are doing to build a brighter future in St. Petersburg and Florida
• Interact with the timeline and learn how you can join the initiative in a pledge to pursue equity and solidarity
