In commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Tombolo Books is honored to welcome Barbara Weigen Bergren and Ruth Finkel Wade to the bookstore.

Both award-winning authors and daughters of Holocaust survivors, Bergren and Wade share their fathers’ story of anguish and resilience in the face of living through the horrors of genocide, dehumanization, and loss. Their books, Witness For My Father and The Ones Who Remember, respectively, reveal their fathers’ passages from trauma to healing and how it impacted their own lives.

Martin Weigen was eleven and Sidney Finkel, eight, when the Nazis invaded their hometowns in Poland. Bergren and Wade discuss the journey that forever changed their lives and that of their families for generations. Committed to their fathers’ legacies and educating about the horrors of genocide, they lecture at schools, museums, libraries, community events, and religious organizations.

Barbara Bergren is an Award Winning Author, lecturer and Holocaust educator. She earned her MBA from the University of Hartford and worked in the finance industry for twenty-five years before writing Witness for My Father. Barbara visits schools, religious organizations, and community groups speaking about her father’s experience during and after World War II. This is the story of her father, Martin Weigen, and how his friendship and reunion with Lieutenant John Withers impacted her life. She lives with her husband in both Florida and Virginia.

After retiring from her career as a training and development executive, Ruth Finkel Wade moved to the St Petersburg area and became active in the Florida Holocaust Museum’s Tampa Bay Generations After group. She is a speaker and docent at the Holocaust Museum, and assists her Holocaust survivor father Sidney Finkel, with the management of his speaking engagements and book Sevek and the Holocaust: The Boy Who Refused to Die. As an editor and contributor to The Ones Who Remember; Second-Generation Voices of the Holocaust, Ruth is working to carry forward her father’s legacy of Holocaust education and post-traumatic growth.
