In conjunction with our special exhibition The Woman Who Broke Boundaries: Photographer Lee Miller, join guest speaker, Dr. Jamie Goldenberg as she delves into the psychology behind boundary breaking women throughout history.

As a Professor of Psychology, Dr. Jamie Goldenberg has spent her career studying the psychological experiences associated with being a woman. After dedicating many years writing for an academic audience, she began to explore additional mediums to communicate her ideas more broadly. This talk will feature her work as a researcher and as an artist. She will present social psychological research depicting the conditions and consequences associated with the objectification of women and discuss the implications for breaking the boundaries that can hinder women’s success and psychological well-being.

The subject matter of her art shows a trajectory from women depicted as objectified to agentic, with her current series featuring progressive women who are changing the world. She recently painted a portrait of Kamala Harris with shattered glass in the background; a picture of the art, the artist, and a t-shirt featuring the art went viral on the Facebook group Pantsuit Nation. Original merchandise will be available for purchase at the Museum after the talk.

Location: The Dalí Museum’s Will Raymund Theater (registration required) or live on YouTube.
