Volunteering at Localtopia 2021, coming up Saturday, Feb. 20 at Williams Park, is just one of the ways you can give back to the community.

We’re almost through the first month of the new year, and if you haven’t found that perfect way to give back to your community yet, we’re here to help. The Catalyst’s Impact Connector is a user-friendly resource where you can find volunteer opportunities that match up with your interests and your schedule.

Whether you want to serve as a mentor, help feed the hungry or promote literacy, here are five ways you can get involved right now:

  • Mentor a student through the Pinellas Education Foundation. The organization’s Take Stock in Children program helps change the lives of deserving students through financial donations and volunteer mentors. The mentoring program is virtual this year, and volunteers are asked to commit to meeting with their mentee 30 minutes a week, twice a month. All mentors are required to complete a training workshop. • Provide meals for a foster family with Feeding the Fosters. This nonprofit supports foster families in the Tampa Bay area by providing them with hot, healthy homemade dinners. Volunteers can opt to cook meals weekly, monthly or one time only. To see volunteer opportunities in your area, click here
  • Volunteer to assist English language learners with the Literacy Council of Upper Pinellas. The LCUP is seeking tech-savvy native English speakers who can assist with or run an online class to help English language learners practice their vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation. Anyone 18 years old or older can sign up to volunteer, and training is required. For more information, click here.
  • Drive for Meals on Wheels of Tampa Bay. Volunteer placements and route assignments are based on availability and interest, and can be done as often or seldom as you want. Pick-up times for each site vary between 9:30 a.m. and 12:25 p.m. Monday through Friday. After volunteers deliver their route, which typically includes eight to 10 stops, the empty coolers and hot bags are dropped back off at the pick-up site. Volunteers are required to submit an application and complete an orientation session prior to starting. To learn more, click here
  • Help out at Localtopia 2021. The annual event, which will take place at Williams Park Saturday, Feb. 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., is seeking volunteers for a variety of tasks and shifts. Volunteers will receive a T-shirt and beer tickets based on the number of hours they work. Masks are required. To sign up, click here

If your organization is looking for volunteers, click here to submit your opportunity. We’ll get the word out to our readers.
