TiE Tampa Bay, a nonprofit entrepreneurship group is launching an exciting initiative they are launching this year in Tampa to
teach high school kids about becoming entrepreneurs: the TiE Youth Entrepreneurship Program. It’s an intensive, hands-on,
year-long program to teach high school kids how to be entrepreneurs, with advice and in-depth sessions with successful local business
people.

Sessions will take place from noon to 4 p.m. at the Junior Achievement Center, 13707 N 22nd Street, Tampa, FL 33613.

The first session features a celebrity guest–Dr. Kiran Patel, who funded the new charter high school, Patel High School, that just opened its doors this year. From 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m., he will speak to the high school students about his entrepreneurship journey and give them tips for theirs.

Here’s a calendar of their events:

Sept 15th – Introduction to Entrepreneurship & Bugs & Passion – Suresh Sharma
Sept 22nd – Customer Empathy, Design Thinking & Rapid Prototyping –
Sarvana Pat Bhava
Oct 13th – Skills Assessment & Team Building – Kannan Sreedhar
Oct 20th – Startup Math – Seema Jain & Travis Jennings
Nov 3rd – Lean canvas – Ramesh Saligame
Nov 17th – Presentation Skills – Rich Heruska

Sessions are in three phases:
Phase 1 – Students learn about the fundamentals of entrepreneurship. The classes will run on alternate Sundays in September through November 2019 (six classes). The classes will run from 11 am to 3-4 pm. In each session. At each session, a thought leader will share their journey with the students, followed by lunch and 2-3 hours of interactive learning.

Phase 2 – is where students put learnings into action. The student will be grouped in a team of five and as a team, they will work on an actual business concept. The classes will also run on alternate Sundays in January through March 2020 (six classes). Each team will be assigned a mentor to help them develop business and prepare them to pitch their plan.

Phase 3 is an evaluation phase where judges will listen to the student pitches and help select a winning team. This will run the last week of March through April 2020. There will be three judging opportunities: the first two to help students hone their business concept and presentation. The third and the final judging event will be to select a winning team. The winning team will then get further coaching so they are ready for the TiE Nationals.
