The Museum of History and Southern Roots Realty invite you to join us Thursday, June 8 for Happy Hour with the Historian!

Celebrated author and historian Robert Jacob shares the story of how Florida played a crucial role in the early life of Andrew Jackson.

Jackson became a national hero after defeating the British at the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812, and in 1818 was ordered by President Madison to protect America's southern border from foreign interference.

When Jackson heard the Seminoles were hiding slaves who had escaped from southern plantations, Jackson invaded Spanish West Florida, intensifying the First Seminole War.

Jackson's actions eventually resulted in the capture of Pensacola and the 1819 Adams-Onís Treaty with Spain, ceding Florida to the United States. Jackson was appointed Florida's first military governor.
