Here’s who won out in the Pinellas County general election

While we may not yet know who won the presidential election, we do have the results for the local races that will make the most difference in our daily lives. They include a mix of political newcomers and seasoned incumbents eager to create a better, more equitable community in Pinellas County.

Here’s a roundup of the winners of Tuesday’s general election:

  • For U.S. house District 13, incumbent Charlie Crist (D) won 53 percent of the vote, defeating Anna Luna (R).

  • Incumbent Darryl Rouson (D) defeated Chistina Paylan in the race for state senate District 19, earning nearly 70 percent of the vote.
  • With 54.1 percent of the vote, Traci Koster (D) won out over Jessica Harrington (R) for state house District 64.
  • For state house District 65, Chris Sprowls (R) retained his seat, defeating Kelly Johnson and earning 61.1 percent of the vote.

  • Nick DiCeglie (R) was re-elected for state house District 66 with 58.7 percent of the vote, besting Patricia Plantamura (D).

  • For state house District 67, incumbent Chris Latvala (R) kept his seat, winning out over Dawn Douglas (D) with 57 percent of the vote.
  • Winning 53.8 percent of the vote, incumbent Ben Diamond (D) defeated Matt Tito to retain his seat for state house District 68.

  • Newcomer Linda Chaney (R) beat out incumbent Jennifer Webb for the state house District 69 seat, earning 52.2 percent of the vote.

Pinellas County

  • With 62.6 percent of the votes, incumbent Sheriff Bob Gualtieri defeated challenger Eliseo Santana.
  • Incumbent Mike Twitty (R) retained his title as Property Appraiser, defeating Trevor Mallory (D) and earning 59 percent of the vote.
  • With 59.6 percent of the vote, incumbent Charles Thomas (R) will stay on as Tax Collector after defeating Joseph Saportas (D).
  • For Supervisor of Elections, incumbent Julie Marcus (R) won out over Dan Helm (D) with 57.6 percent of the vote.
  • In the race for the District 1 at-large seat on the county commission, incumbent Janet Long (D) earned 50.6 percent of the vote, defeating Larry Ahern (R) .
  • Incumbent Charlie Justice (D) kept his District 3 at-large seat on the county commission with 50.3 percent of the vote, beating Tammy Sue Vasquez (R).
  • For the District 7 seat on the county commission, Rene Flowers (D) won out over Maria Scruggs, earning 67.4 percent of the vote.
  • With 55.6 percent of the vote, Laura Hine defeated Stephanie Meyer for the school board District 1 at large seat.
  • Caprice Edmond won out over Karl Nurse for the school board District 7 at large seat with 56.7 percent of the votes.
