What do you do?
I make fun and functional pottery from mud. I particularly love bright colors and cheerful designs. I currently have my own studio/shop in the Warehouse Arts District.
Why do you do it?
I love the process and the fact that I make people smile daily, while using one of my pieces. My studio is also a safe space for me, where I can just do what I enjoy.
What was your Catalyst? (How did you get started?)
The Muddy Walrus was created because we had a name issue. We got our Walrus puppy and the rest is history. She and the name change have positively affected my business. As for pottery, I got back to that several years ago as a way to have “me time.” Eventually it evolved into me selling my wares.
What’s a common misconception or unknown aspect of what you do?
Most people don’t understand the amount of steps required to get from a ball of clay to a functional mug. I make it take even longer by my decoration and carving!
What’s the most challenging part of your Hustle?
For me, it’s doing the events. My anxiety sets in big time. I have a good time and love them once we get going.
What’s the most valuable piece of business advice/insight that’s helped you?
Have fun! Don’t get bogged down in the details and stress. Remember why you do it and focus on that.
