Name: Roberto Alvarez (Learn Italian)

Posted By AA Catalyst

Roberto Alvarez has been teaching Italian for 20 years, but, he explains, the foundation was there at birth - his mother came to the United States from Naples, Italy. He earned degrees from the Department of Italian Studies at Indiana University and L’Università di Bologna in Bologna, then spent 25 years as a television sports reporter and news anchor at major markets across the USA. He retired in 1999 and began focusing on his passion for all things Italian, including designing and conducting tours to Italy and teaching. Due to the pandemic, group classes - normally held in Italian restaurants - are temporarily suspended, but online learning remains an option.

I teach conversational Italian. I prepare my clients for a vacation, reconnect them with their heritage and if desired help them reach their chosen level of fluency. I also design and conduct tours to Italy.

Why do you do it?

To help people reach a their goal and to keep alive the beautiful Italian language and culture. It’s also fun for my clients and I, and a joy to see them learn, speak and communicate in a new language.

What was your Catalyst? (How did you get started?)

Wanting to teach people the beautiful Italian language and culture. Reconnect them with their Italian heritage and prepare them for a trip to Italy.

What’s a common misconception or unknown aspect of what you do?

That it’s too hard to learn a new language.

What’s the most challenging part of your Hustle?

Convincing people that it’s never too late to learn and they do have the time and the “smarts” to add a new dimension to their lives.
