Ruth Glass studied herbalism for 20 years as a family herbalist, attended numerous herbal conferences and completed two certified clinical herbal study programs. This diverse background, she says, has trained her in both Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Herbalism, with a focus on the plants native to Pinellas County. The Eight Principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) serve as the foundation for her clinical practice. Her herbal product line, Ruthie’s Botanicals, is a blend of local wild-harvested and carefully cultivated herbs. "I hand-craft them with the cycles of the moon."

Herbalist

What do you do?

I work with plants for wellness and art! I do herbal consultations with personalized herbal formulas as part of a wellness plan for my clients. I also teach herbalism to people of all ages by holding workshops and nature camps around Tampa Bay, in places like Acupuncture and Herbal Therapies, Boyd Hill Preserve and Sweetwater Farms. Some of my herbal product line can be found at Thank You Mama Wellness Center in St. Pete.

Why do you do it?

I want people to know that plants are key to our health, joy and wellbeing.

What was your Catalyst? (How did you get started?)

When my first child was born I wanted to give him a natural way of living and avoid unnecessary toxins. That path led me to the world of herbalism for our family’s health.

What’s a common misconception or unknown aspect of what you do?

Herbalism takes training, dedication and always being open to listening and learning. It is so much more than searching the internet for which herb will help your ailment.

What’s the most challenging part of your Hustle?

Time management! I teach and work all over Tampa Bay so it can be challenging to keep track of everything for sure!

What’s the most valuable piece of business advice/insight that’s helped you?

During the hard times, remember the joy this work brings.
