Iconic World Liquors sign finds new home at Ferg’s Sports Bar
World Liquors’ giant globe sign has been a staple of St. Petersburg’s Central Avenue since 1961. When World Liquors closed (and was later demolished to make room for apartments) in 2018, many longtime residents worried what would become of the iconic symbol of St. Pete.
That same year, the Tampa Bay Times reported that Mark Ferguson, owner of Ferg’s Sports Bar, purchased the sign at an auction for $5,060. After more than a year and a half, the EDGE District has reported in a Facebook post that the restored sign is officially installed once again on Central Avenue. According to the EDGE district, the official lighting ceremony, “Ferg’s Lights Up The World,” will take place August 23.
