Kriseman: Opening celebration of the new St. Petersburg Pier postponed

Mayor Rick Kriseman announced Tuesday afternoon that the opening celebration of the new St. Petersburg Pier, scheduled for May 30, would be postponed until further notice due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We’ve waited a long time to get in there, and unfortunately, we’re going to have to wait just a little bit longer,” Kriseman said.
He explained that the decision to postpone the Pier’s opening comes as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said that he did not foresee mass gatherings happening in the month of May.
“There’s just too much uncertainty to plan such a gathering and it’s simply in the best interest of public health and safety to wait just a bit longer, not too much longer, but certainly not May 30.”
Kriseman, who has been privy to the progress of the Pier from the start, said that it would be “worth the wait.”
Check back with the St. Pete Catalyst for further updates as more news on the rescheduled celebration is announced.

It appears from the Mayor’s statement that the park is done. If that is the case, we are not allowed access to the open expanses of the park so politicians can make speeches??
Agree with Tom Lauria, currently it is impossible for Marina tenants to access the North Docks and socially distance on the existing narrow walkway. At the least, the City should provide access to the newly built wide sidewalk.

I hope there will be soft opening to enjoy the outdoor concourses and views before a formal opening gala. I am eager just to walk the property.
