Lauryn Hill tour, including Friday’s Tampa show, is canceled
Friday’s concert by Lauryn Hill (aka Ms. Lauryn Hill) at Tampa’s Mid-Florida Credit Union Amphitheatre has been canceled.
It was to be the opening date on the hip hop artist’s summer reunion tour with her 1990s band, the Fugees, as well as a musical celebration of the 25th anniversary of her record-breaking solo debut The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
The entire tour – 18 cross-country dates – was canceled, with no explanation given. All the shows have been removed from Ticketmaster’s website.
According to Variety, ticketholders posted screenshots of a message they received from tour promoter Live Nation: “Your event has been canceled. A refund will be on its way to your account soon.”
The Hill/Fugees reunion tour was first announced in 2021, then postponed and finally canceled in January 2022; Covid conditions were cited as the reason at the time.
The tour that was to kick off in Tampa Friday began in the fall of 2023, but in November a number of dates, many of them sold out, were scrubbed and rescheduled for this summer and fall.
“As many of you may know, I’ve been battling serious vocal strain for the past month,” Hill said at the time. “I made it through each show by taking prescribed prednisone, but this can be detrimental to the body when taken in large amounts over long periods of time. In order to prevent any long term negative affect on my voice and my body, I need to take time off to allow for real vocal recovery so that I can discontinue the medication completely.”
