Photographer Herb Snitzer, whose iconic images of jazz musicians in the 1950s and ’60s appeared in national and global publications including Life and Look magazines, the New York Times and others, has died at age 90. He was a resident of St. Petersburg for nearly three decades.

Can I Get a Witness, an exhibition of Snitzer’s photographs depicting community involvement, social justice and civil rights events and people, was presented at the Museum of Fine Arts St. Petersburg in 2018.

Herb was a real gem of a man. Engaging Herb in conversation was always a meandering view into the life and times of the multitude of musicians and celebrities that he photographed over several decades.
He was celebrity unto himself, but he never saw himself as anything but a picture taker who loved his final place of residence in St.Petersburg.
Those of us that knew him will miss him.
