Concerts

Saturday’s Capitol Theatre concert from Welsh band The Alarm has been postponed. Singer, songwriter and guitarist Mike Peters, 65, recently announced that he was diagnosed with lymphatic cancer. “I am now engaged in the biggest challenge of my life,” he said.

The entire American tour, with co-headliners Jay Ashton’s Gene Loves Jezebel and Belouis Some, has been put on hold.

A band that emerged around the same time as Ireland’s U2, with similarly loud, proud and brash anthemic post-punk music, The Alarm never quite reached the same commercial heights, but retained a global cult following.

“Cancer has been chasing me for 29 years now, and in all that time, I have managed to outrun the disease and stay alive,” Peters wrote on the Alarm’s website.” My focus and resolve remain the same, and I’m determined to keep running even harder to stay one step ahead and resume my life as a husband, father, and musician as soon as possible.”

The band’s next scheduled appearance is Aug. 11 at the Northern Kin Festival in Durham, U.K.

Bay area-born comedian Bert Kreischer begins a seven-concert run tonight at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg, one of which will be filmed for his sixth Netflix special. Tickets.

The South Korean boy band A.C.E. is onstage tonight at Ferguson Hall, in the Straz Center for the Performing Arts in Tampa. This tour is a reunion of the original five K-poppers- Lee Donghun, Wow, Park Junhee, Kim Byeongkwan and Kang Yuchan – as all A.C.E. members have completed their mandatory military service. Find tickets here.

Screamo band Hawthorne Heights headlines Saturday’s bleak-is-beautiful 20 Years of Tears Tour show at the Baycare Sound amphitheater in Clearwater. Also on the bill: Amberlin, I See Stars, Armor for Sleep, Emery and This Wild Life. Tickets can be found here.

Harry Wayne Casey, a.k.a. KC, is still leading the party charge for Florida’s platinum-selling disco veterans KC & the Sunshine Band. Get down tonight – sorry, get down Sunday night – at the Seminole Hard Rock Event Center, Tampa. Tickets.

The weekend in visual art

Artist Jabari Reed-Diop, a.k.a. iBOMS, is unveiling a new project Saturday at FloridaRAMA, the creative funhouse formerly known as Fairgrounds St. Pete. Son Sign debuts with a public reception from 5 to 8 p.m. According to the event space, the art exhibit is “a representation of the metaphorical and spiritual journey that symbolizes his own perception of what it means to be a man of God.”

Pet Skunk Advocates and Rescue is bringing live animals to Bayboro Brewing Sunday for Possums and Prosecco, 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Local artists will sketch, paint, sculpt et cetera the opossums, skunks and raccoons. Bayboro Brewing will donate $1 from every mimosa sold to the rescue organization.
