Big Brothers Big Sisters is a youth mentoring service that works with children across Tampa Bay.
Wanting to provide support and to change the lives of children, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay pairs adults with young children. Adults and children engage in activities that are enjoyable for everyone, including arts and crafts, bike riding or watching sports games. As a result of having a trusted mentor, children are less likely to be involved in crime, the juvenile justice system or do drugs. Mentors also encourage children to attend school and spend more time doing schoolwork, which helps them to advance to the next grade level. Big Brothers Big Sisters tend to pair people of different backgrounds and races in order to dissolve barriers and form long-lasting relationships, helping to boost children’s self-esteem and self-confidence.
