The Florida School of Woodwork, founded in 2004, has made a name for itself as the premier woodworking school in the region. This woodworking school recognizes the spiritual, creative and psychic rewards of woodworking, as it thrives at the intersection of “thinking” and “doing.” The school offers beginning, intermediate and advanced woodworking classes under the tutelage of 15 instructors of international caliber. The school also offers a “Makers Hand” scholarship to young woodworkers. The woodworking occurs in a beautiful building (on the National Historic Register) that features 4,000 square feet of usable space.

The Florida School of Woodwork offers woodworking classes in Tampa. The faculty are all master artisans who merge art, years of experience and wonderful teaching skills to ensure that student thrive and expand their woodworking abilities. The school focuses on teaching traditional joinery; curved work; pyrography, textural carving and embellishment; finishing; and the integration of salvage, veneer and exotic materials. The school creates custom furniture pieces and designs for individual clients, architects, custom home builders and designers.

Renowned for her exquisite textural and surface embellishment work, Kate Swann is a master craftswoman of fine wood furniture and sculptural works. Her unique artwork has received much praise and many of her designs are recognized as signature works: published, collected and widely known. As the founder and director of the Florida School of Woodworking, she oversees the curriculum, classes and mission of the school. Her knowledge and skills come from many years of running Franklin St. Fine Woodwork. A custom design company she co-founded over twenty years ago. Passionate about the artisanal crafts she works to inspire and motivate students to achieve new levels of accomplishment in the fine woodworking.
