The St. Petersburg Police Department has been protecting and serving the city of St. Petersburg for over 100 years.

With more than 260,000 citizens, the police department devotes its effort and resources into maintaining the community for everyone. Its services encompass public record keeping, crime prevention programs, bicycle registration and many others to keep the city running smoothly and safely. Supported by volunteers and community effort, the police department works actively with the city and everyone in it. Located in the heart of downtown, the St. Petersburg Police Department is central to making the city the beautiful place it is.

The St. Petersburg Police Department oversees the fifth largest city in Florida, one of 164 law enforcement agencies in the state, accredited by the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation. It is dedicated to a philosophy of Community Policing, working closely with the community as a partner rather than an external force. With three bureaus (the Administrative Services Bureau, the Investigative Services Bureau and the Uniform Services Bureau), the police department protects and serves the people of the St. Petersburg community.

The St. Petersburg Police Department has been credited by the Commission on Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) ten times. It has also earned the "meritorious" agency title for maintaining accreditation for over 30 years.

Anthony Holloway

Police Chief

Anthony Holloway began his law enforcement career with the Clearwater Police Department in 1985. Upon his retirement in 2007, he was selected as the Chief of Police for the City of Somerville, Massachusetts. In February 2010, he rejoined the Clearwater Police Department as Chief of Police, and in August 2014, he was selected and now serves as Chief of Police for the St. Petersburg Police Department. Chief Holloway earned his Bachelor of Arts degree (Business Management) in 1999 and Master’s degree (Business Administration) in 2001. He is a June 2005 graduate of the course of study in Executive Strategic Management, Police Executive Research Forum, Senior Management Institute for Police at Boston University. In June of 2011, he was awarded a Certificate of Completion for the Senior Executives in State and Local Government Program from Harvard University, Kennedy School of Government, Executive Education. In August of 2015, he successfully completed the Executive Leaders Program at the Naval Postgraduate School’s Center for Homeland Defense and Security, Monterey, California; and in September of 2016, he successfully completed the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Executive Institute (Class #39). Chief Holloway has taught law enforcement to governmental, military, educational and community organizations throughout Florida. He serves as Chair of the Professional Standards Committee of the Florida Police Chiefs Association, Co-Chair of the Law Enforcement Committee on Criminal Justice Section of the American Bar Association, Chair of the Florida Regional Community Policing Institute and Chair of the Juvenile Justice Advisory Council. Chief Holloway currently serves on the Florida Supreme Court Standing Committee on Fairness and Diversity and the Florida Supreme Court Racial and Ethnic Disparities Advisory Workgroup. Chief Holloway sits on the Board of Directors for the Homeless Emergency Project and also serves on the nominating committee for Senator Bill Nelson’s United States Armed Forces Academy Board. In May of 2018, Chief Holloway was named a Distinguished Fellow at the Joint Special Operations University (JSOU) at MacDill Air Force Base for his contributions to a branch of learning associated with national security and special operations.
