Former winter home of August A. Busch Jr. demolished

A four-lot compound, located at 2707 Pass a Grille Way, St Pete Beach has been demolished to make way for a single 23,000 square-foot home on the half-acre site. Originally built as three separate structures in the early 1950s, with its own private marina, the property was once home to August A. Busch, Jr., Chairman of the Anheuser-Busch Companies from 1946 to 1975.

When Busch died in 1989, the estate was sold to a Tampa beer distributor, and then to a developer in 1997 who turned the property into the Birds of Paradise Boutique Resort.

Following the Great Recession of 2008-2009, the property was on and off the market until it was purchased in 2017 for $5.4 million.

The 10-story, 489-room hotel, which closed about a year ago, was located at 4500 W. Cypress Street. The project coincides with the ongoing construction of the Howard Frankland Bridge.
