The race to succeed Amy Foster on the St. Petersburg City Council so far includes four people, but Dane Kuplicki says his youth, energy and local roots give him an edge.

“The fact that I’m local, that I grew up here and understand this community and understand the people really kind of sets me apart,” said Kuplicki, a 34-year-old optometrist who grew up in south Pinellas, on Political Party with Adam Smith.

Other candidates include teacher Richie Floyd, former city council member Jeff Danner and former city council candidate Jamie Mayo.

“We need a young, local leader on the council that’s pragmatic, that is willing to dive in and understand those issues and come to those meetings prepared, that’s also a team player, that’s also not going to be divisive,” Kuplicki said.
