Roser Park adds porch concerts to its weekend Tour of Homes
The live oaks grow to extremes in Historic Roser Park, one of St. Petersburg’s earliest suburban neighborhoods (along with Historic Kenwood, Roser Park claims, through its Neighborhood Association, to be the first planned area outside of the downtown business district).
Those massive trees – with limbs reaching up, out and down in leafy arachnid glory – frame winding, hilly brick streets lined with 173 homes, the majority in early 20th century styles like Frame Vernacular, Bungalow, Dutch Colonial, Foursquare and Craftsman.
The 270-acre district is bounded by 4th Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street to the east and west, and by Booker Creek and Ingleside Avenue (12th Avenue South) to the north and south. Booker Creek winds through it. It is located in the Midtown Redevelopment Area.
Roser Park is listed on the National Register for its significance in community planning and development, architecture and landscape architecture.
The annual Historic Roser Park Neighborhood Association Tour of Homes takes place Saturday (March 19) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Info and tickets are here.
This year, for the first time, the association has added a little something extra, a little extra icing on the “quaint” cake. Porchfest, 2-6 p.m., is a free (no ticket required) family-friendly event on Roser Park streets.
And, as the name implies, on Roser Park porches. Various musicians will be set up on various porches, providing exclusive mini-concerts (see schedule and map below).
Vendors, craftsmen, and food trucks will be on site.
