Marxent uses 3D design and virtual reality to allow shoppers to design entire rooms before they buy furniture and decor.

Marxent, a St. Petersburg company specializing in 3D commerce platforms for home-goods retailers, may dip its feet into new sectors that can benefit from its product.

Marxent’s 3D Cloud Platform allows consumers to virtually design bathrooms, kitchens, living rooms, offices and even outdoor spaces using furniture and decor that they can purchase from retailers such as Macy’s, Lowe’s and Ashley’s Furniture.

“Over the last few years. Marxent has really built that momentum with large brand names like Macy’s and Lowe’s. We are going to continue to garner that strong interest in retail spaces,” Tom Woiteshek, head of growth at Marxent, told the St. Pete Catalyst.

Woiteshek is a recent hire for the tech provider and is charged with creating new strategic initiatives and exploring new business opportunities.

“Some areas we are exploring include luxury goods like handbags and other goods that could be purchased online, and also new home builds and medical buildings,” he said. “There’s been historical communication with those groups and the goal is to prioritize those growth areas.”

The exploration into new territories comes as Marxent has made recent strides.

In late May, the company patented a tech device dubbed the ‘Design from Photo’ e-commerce technology that’s geared toward the inspiration stage as it allows a user to click on a photo and add it to a 3D scene. It includes the ability to tap on a buyable product in an inspirational photo and add it to a 3D scene with other 3D products.

Woiteshek said it complements the partnership Marxent has with Pinterest.

Additionally, Marxent closed a $15 million Series C round of financing led by Arnie Bellini, the founder and former CEO of Tampa-based IT solutions firm ConnectWise.

Other investors in the funding round that closed earlier this year included Lee Arnold, executive chairman of Colliers International Florida, as well as Ed Woiteshek, a member of Marxent’s board of directors. Series C round of investment will grow the firm’s presence even more in Europe and other markets.

Marxent has offices in the United Kingdom and France and has secured deals with European companies such as John Lewis and Partners and Kingfisher plc.

Over the last six months, the company grew its workforce by 30-40 percent and is looking to fill 15 to 20 positions across the board in software, project management, development and content creation, Woiteshek said.
