Wednesday (Aug. 5)  at noon, The Suncoast Tiger Bay Club will hold a virtual forum featuring the four candidates running for Pinellas County Commissioner District 7.

The candidates are:

  • Rene Flowers, a St. Petersburg native and former city council member who currently serves on the school board
  • Wengay “Newt” Newton, a St. Petersburg native and former city council member who currently serves as the state representative for District 70
  • Frank Peterman Jr., a St. Petersburg native and former city council member who served three and a half terms as a state representative for District 55
  • Maria Scruggs, a St. Petersburg native with an extensive background in law enforcement

During the discussion, the candidates will share their platforms and their goals should they be elected to the seat currently held by Ken Welch. Attendees will also have the opportunities to ask questions of the candidates following the moderated portion of the forum.

The event is free of charge for Tiger Bay members and $5 for non-members, though organizers encourage donating the $25 price of the regular lunch meeting. Money raised goes to support continuing programming and support for the Young Tigers Scholarship Program.

A link to the Zoom video will be sent via email the day before the event and the day of the event. The registration deadline is Wednesday at 11 a.m. To sign up, click here.
