Powderkeg, a community of tech entrepreneurs and related organizations, awarded “best culture” honors to four companies in the Tampa-St. Petersburg area.

The Tampa Bay Innovation Center, Grifin, JustProtect and Immertec were recognized at Powderkeg’s Dec. 17 Unvalley Conference, a virtual event designed to connect the hottest companies in technology beyond Silicon Valley.

Powderkeg focused its awards on company culture because it said culture is the top reason people join a technology company. For the awards, more than 1,000 tech professionals across the country rated their companies and employers on several topics that contribute to company culture, including leadership, management, workplace, compensation, benefits, community involvement, social responsibility, diversity and inclusion, and career path. About 100 companies were recognized in one or more categories.

The Tampa Bay Innovation Center, a St. Petersburg-based business incubator with coworking space and an accelerator program, was honored in the startup culture category.

“We are proud to be recognized by Powderkeg. It is important to our team that we set forth a company culture that represents the tech community. Given this was an extraordinary year for most all businesses due to the pandemic, it was even more important for our team to remain flexible for our clients,” said Tonya Elmore, president and CEO.

Grifin, JustProtect and Immertec each received several awards.

Grifin, based in Tampa and with an app that automatically invests users directly into the companies they shop at, was a finalist for top-rated overall culture and also received recognition in the leadership team and career path categories, as well as the diversity, equity and inclusion category.

JustProtect, a Tampa company with a Software-as-a-Service platform that helps enterprises simplify the process of distributing and responding to internal and third party assessments, was honored for work-life balance, leadership team, sales and marketing team culture and engineering team culture, as well as diversity, equity and inclusion.

Immertec, a Tampa company that provides real-time virtual surgical training, received awards for diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as career path, sales and marketing team culture and engineering team culture.
