Two companies with significant footprints in Tampa are planning mass layoffs at their local offices.

Over 100 layoffs will occur at Wipro Limited (NYSE: WIT), a prominent Indian-based informational technology company, which plans to lay off its entire Tampa staff at 4110 George Road in the Independence Park corporate center.

Wipro informed the state it will cut the 120 Tampa employees “due to a lack of work,” according to the company’s March 14 letter to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity and Tampa Mayor Jane Castor.

The permanent layoffs will commence May 14 and conclude May 27. The majority of the affected workers serve as processing agents and do not have a union representative.

Wipro first opened a Tampa office in 2016 when it bought HealthPlan Services for $460 million.

The letter doesn’t indicate if this will result in a complete exit in the Tampa market; however, multiple international publications report the local layoffs will be an “isolated event” as the company realigns its strategizes and remains committed to serving Tampa clients.

Following Wipro’s layoffs, Illinois-based marketing firm Amsive LLC will also have a “permanent reduction in force” at its Tampa office at 8514 Sunshine St.

Amsive, which entered the market after acquiring Tampa-based firm Genesis Direct in 2022, plans to cut 48 employees starting May 15, according to its March 13 notice to the state.

The notification letter doesn’t specify the reason for the layoffs; however, in an emailed correspondence with a company spokeswoman, she shared that some of the company’s facilities were acquired over the last several years. As a result, Amsive will discontinue its Florida production line.

The production line closure will impact 48 of the approximately 100 employees in Tampa. The affected employees were notified of the layoffs March 9 and are not represented by a union.

The remaining half of the local employees serving in customer experience, data services, finance, sales and technology roles will not be impacted by the layoffs.

“The orderly transition of closing production will happen over the next several months. All production employees whose jobs are impacted have been provided transition periods and separation benefits, and each will have the opportunity to apply for Amsive job openings across the country,” according to Amsive’s spokeswoman.
