The Nickel Ride, a free on-demand electric rideshare company, today announced its plan to relaunch its fleet of six electric cars in its St. Petersburg location and replace them with 2019 Nissan LEAFs on Wednesday, May 15, 2019.

The Nickel Ride has operated in St. Pete since August, 2018. Since the launch, the company has received support from a multitude of local organizations, include Car Free Living St. Pete and the PSTA, who have helped increase the awareness of the free rideshare service. After ten successful months, the company has experienced a significant increase in ridership, which was a driving factor behind enhancing its fleet of Nickel Rides. This strategic decision will ensure that The Nickel Ride can keep up with the growing ridership demands as well as improve the ROI of its Advertisers who leverage the company for its unique digital platform and out of home advertising business model.

With the relaunch of the new and improved electric cars comes a host of exciting opportunities for businesses and the community members of St. Pete alike. The Nickel Ride is happy to announce that it has updated the inside of its fleet to offer a digital channel for Advertisers to connect with Riders, known as Nickel TV. Customers will now have the option to purchase digital ad space on the Nickel TVs, which will allow them to reach a captivated audience during the unique Nickel Ride experience. Additionally, The Nickel Ride will be significantly expanding its service area to cover a larger area of St. Pete, which will include routes to St. Pete Beach and back.

“St. Pete is our highest performing markets and the growth we’ve experiences these past ten months has proven that we needed to scale our operations to keep pace with the growing demands from our Riders and Advertisers” said Judah Longgrear, Founder & CEO, The Nickel Ride. “My team and I decided it was time to make additional investments into the city that has supported our mission and vision since the day we launched. We’re very excited to bring a better rideshare for all to the St. Pete community.”

Be on the lookout for The Nickel Ride’s new Nickel LEAFs that will be on the road starting Wednesday, May 15, and don’t forget to download the mobile app to request your free rides.
