The Vinoy Renaissance St. Petersburg Resort and Golf Club will break ground on a remodel that will redesign and update the nearly 100-year-old resort.

The new upgrades for the historic Vinoy resort, which is operated by Marriott International, include a new lobby and porte cochere, fully renovated guest rooms and a restored veranda, according to a letter the resort sent to Vinoy club members.

Construction on the first phase of the 362-room resort is slated to begin this coming week.

“The reimagined Vinoy will showcase the perfect balance of historic preservation and classic luxury,” General Manager  Tabish Siddiquie said in the letter.

The resort is working with San Francisco-based Hart Howerton Architects and the New York-based Rockwell Group to redesign the hotel while continuing to embrace the Vinoy’s traditional Mediterranean revival design and old-Florida grandeur.

The fully renovated Historic Tower guest rooms will be inspired by Florida’s coastal topography and will feature the hotel’s signature polished palette, streamlined crown molding, wood flooring, bathrooms with walk-in marble showers, and dramatic fixtures that create a sense of relaxed luxury, according to the letter.

The work also involves completely restoring the Vinoy Grand Ballroom and Palm Court Ballroom, a redone Spa and a revamped pool terrace that will include a new poolside restaurant and bar, alongside the existing Paul’s Landing.

A lobby patisserie will also join the resort’s culinary options in addition to a new elegant redesign of the Marchand’s space, which is in the preliminary stages.

The initial phase of the resort’s transformation will debut in 2022.

“Once complete, the reimagined Vinoy will showcase the perfect balance of historic preservation and classic luxury,” Siddiquie wrote.
