The thriller "The Invitation" was No. 1 at the box office last weekend. Sony Pictures Entertainment.

(Some might include “they don’t make ‘em like they used to” in that discussion.)

Saturday is National Cinema Day, designated by NATO – the National Association of Theater Owners. In an effort to put people back in theater seats over Labor Day Weekend, several major American chains are offering $3 admission to all shows, all times, in all formats (that means IMAX and other big-screen gimmicks are part of the package). There are more than 3,000 participating locations around the country, with more than 30,000 screens.

There are $3 deals on snacks and drinks, too.

According to the National Cinema Day website, Pinellas County theaters doing the $3 thing are AMC Sundial 12, Regal Park Place & RPX, Studio Movie Grill Seminole, Regal Largo Mall, CMX Tyrone, CMX Countryside and AMC Classic Palm Harbor.

Some restrictions and online-purchase fees apply, of course. It’s recommended that you check the website and/or call the theater in question.
