Tampa Bay area residents can now try out a new dating service.

Greg Miceli and Felicity Morgan officially launched the Single Social Club last week. The platform brings people together based on shared interests and compatible schedules, and helps them plan real-world activities.

For the entrepreneurs, the idea was simple. They wanted to create an experience that was different from swiping on a profile.

Many dating apps work like this: users will first view pictures and read information about an individual. They will then swipe left or right to express if they are interested in having a conversation or not.

The Single Social Club leverages a blind dating model. Sort of.

Customers can select activities and the times they are available. They will then be placed in groups of six to eight people.

Here’s the catch. While the individuals can talk to each other before an outing to plan the logistics, everyone is known by a code name. These monikers are generic, such as Moon and Butterfly. Additionally, there are no pictures.

The attendees will meet each other for the first time at the scheduled event. All of the individuals live within a certain mile radius. As they enjoy the activity together, Miceli and Morgan believe that connections will be made. The founders explained that there will be a proportionate amount of men and women at each outing.

For Morgan, it’s a matter of science and principle. She’s a Tampa Bay area-based matchmaker. Many clients have expressed similar frustrations, especially regarding how modern dating experiences can be akin to “performances.”

“A lot of them were like ‘I’m taking a break now. I’m tired of matchmaking and all of the swiping,'” she explained. “So, they just wanted to go find themselves.”

However, Morgan’s clients also still wanted to meet people and network. This led to a conversation with Miceli. Before moving out of the country, he was a resident of the bay region for over 20 years. Miceli started a local singles group in 2018. He also founded the Tampa Bay Business Network.

Eventually, Morgan would become involved in the operations of Miceli’s singles group. A friendship and partnership would form.

“She gave me the whole scope of what her vision was and how she can take the singles already in her network as well as the matchmatching she’s already done successfully and combine it all together in an app,” Miceli explained.

Single Social Club groups are already being created in the Tampa Bay area. However, the experience is available in other cities and states.

“We wanted to get away from the daily apps,” he added. “One thing that singles don’t really think about is ‘hey, I’m doing this this weekend. Who can I do it with?’”

Miceli and Morgan emphasized that there is a safety component to the Single Social Club. Each registered user creates a private, verified profile and has to provide a form of identification such as a driver’s license or passport. This, Morgan explained, can also help prevent catfishing.

While users are encouraged to share their phone numbers after an activity if they are comfortable, Morgan can also help connect individuals if there is mutual interest.

“It’s pressure free single dating doing things you already love to do,” Miceli said. “I try to tell the people when they go through these interests and activities, don’t just click them all!”

Currently, there are two subscription plans. The first allows users to participate in five outings per month. The second is an unlimited option.

Wonderful. Another online dating service that reduces couples’ origin stories to the immensely boring and desperate: “We met online”.
    Pathetic.
