Empath Health Announces Grand Opening of Adult Day Center Focused on Veteran Needs

St. Petersburg – Empath Health announces the grand opening of the Auer Szabo Empath Adult Day Center at 340 49th Street South in St. Petersburg on Thursday, October 27 at 10:30 a.m. This Adult Day Center is focused on the psychosocial and recreational needs of veterans and other adults of any age.

Pinellas County is home to more than 80,000 veterans, many of whom are experiencing isolation, depression, physical and psychosocial challenges and caregivers experiencing burnout. The Auer Szabo Empath Adult Day Center will provide any honorably-discharged veteran, and other adults access to comprehensive services, including medical care, physical, occupational and group therapies; nutritious hot meals and snacks; group activities; one-on-one or group support; and more. In addition, the specially-designed facility includes a Victory Garden, a Veterans Library and Museum and a Table of the Missing Man and Woman.

“Our community’s veterans deserve to be cared for and properly honored for their service to our country. The Auer Szabo Empath Adult Day Center will provide this much-needed support system for them and their caregivers,” said Rafael J. Sciullo, CEO of Empath Health.

Empath Health has a long history of providing care and support for veterans under its Empath Honors program. This includes being a Five-Star Partner, the highest level possible, in the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization’s We Honor Veterans Program and a partner with the Honor Flight Network. Veteran to Veteran volunteers offering camaraderie only fellow veterans can relate to, facilitators in the Veterans History Project, where veteran stories are collected in partnership with the Library of Congress and monthly informational and support options throughout served communities.

“The creation of this new Adult Day Center exemplifies Empath’s mission of providing full life care for all,” said Empath Health President Jonathan Fleece. “The unique challenges veterans may face can leave them feeling alone, and those who are caring for them burned out. The Center will create a specialized community and support system for them.”
