Stevens & Stevens Business Records Management celebrates 25 years
of scanning, storing and shredding

For Immediate Release: May 7, 2019
Tampa, FL) Nearly one million boxes in storage is what business looks like today for Stevens & Stevens Business Records Management (SSBRM), but 25 years ago, it was a different story. Surviving and thriving as a paper-based company for 25 years has taken more than a business-as-usual approach. SSBRM, a company that specializes in scanning, storing and shredding services, is celebrating its 25th anniversary in May.

According to co-owner and president Marshall Stevens, the success of the past 25 years has been about embracing theimpact of the digital age and introducing entirely new business services. “Pen and paper still exists, but new ways of recording data have meant continuous changes to the way that data is stored and destroyed,” explained Marshall. “SSBRM has chosen to adapt its services, even before it becomes necessary, so that we can position ourselves on the forefront of digital advances to the records management industry.”

Ralph, Marshall and Rhett Stevens started SSBRM in 1994 as a small records storage facility in Clearwater, Florida. Flash forward to 2010, when SSBRM purchased an imaging company with a small records storage business in Greenville, South Carolina. Along the way, advancing technology in all other industries led to SSBRM introducing new services: imaging solutions and software, data protection and storage and secure destruction. SSBRM now employs 43 people and has facilities in Tampa and Clearwater, Florida and Greenville, South Carolina.

As co-owners and brothers Marshall and Rhett reflect on the last 25 years, certain memories stand out. “One big highlight was volunteering to digitize over 150,000 Minor League Baseball player statistical cards from 1912 to the 1990s. Theproject took over three years, but we were happy to take it on, as it also helped our employees keep their jobs when work was light,” Marshall explained. “We also both used to play in the Northeast Little League in St. Petersburg, and I recently started coaching there as well. So it was really special for us to also be able to purchase a new scoreboard for the team on behalf of Stevens & Stevens, the team’s first working one in years.”

Another highlight for the brothers has been growing the company’s green efforts. “With increasing ID theft concerns and the push for environmental sustainability, we’ve expanded our shredding services and made a massive effort to recycle paper, as well as install solar panels,” added co-owner Rhett Stevens. For every ton of paper SSBRM recycles, 17 trees are saved. Since 2012, they’ve saved over 300,000 trees.

Rhett added, “Looking back over the past 25 years definitely makes us excited about where we’re headed in the next 25 years. We’re eager to take advantage of future technological advances to help us better serve the communities where we’re located.”
