Gulfside Resort Celebrates 50 Years of Hospitality and Transformation in St. Pete Beach
St. Pete Beach, Florida – Gulfside Resort, a charming boutique hotel, proudly celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Founded by Robert and Suzanne Teichert as a retirement plan after raising seven children, Gulfside has become a beloved destination known for its warm hospitality, refreshing pool, and ideal location just 200 yards from Upham Beach.
Robert’s connection to St. Pete Beach began when he was drafted by the Washington Senators, and he fell in love with the area during spring training. Suzanne, a vibrant community member and active participant at St. John’s Catholic Church, has always embraced her role in the community, whether it’s dancing with local groups or enjoying card games with friends.
In the later years, their daughter Kathy Teichert returned to Florida to help her parents manage the resort, bringing with her a wealth of experience as a Golf Coach at the University of Michigan. Following the passing of their beloved parents, Kathy’s brother Jim joined the team, and together they continue to uphold the family legacy.
In light of recent hurricanes Helena and Milton, Gulfside Resort has undergone a stunning transformation, featuring four newly renovated rooms, a revamped logo, and beautiful new plantings around the property, enhancing the serene environment for guests. Jacqueline Teichert spearheaded the redesign, collaborating with local artisans and businesses to honor the community spirit.
The renovations showcase fabrics sourced from the local Jays Fabric, a cherished community resource that recently closed after 64 years. Many of the original curtains in the units were crafted from these fabrics. Lou and Brooks of Lou’s Upholstery, based in St. Petersburg, created exquisite headboards, daybeds, and outdoor seating using these materials. Additionally, Terohn Heinrich served as the lead contractor, working alongside local 4th generation carpenter Ryan Brady, who handcrafted desks, TV cabinets, bedroom drawers, and kitchens, ensuring a personal touch throughout the property. Guests can also admire Sally Vanquaethem’s artistry in the “Honeymoon Suite” (Room 7), featuring a luxurious double sunken bathtub and a relaxing mural in the living room.
“We are incredibly grateful for the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in this project. They truly turned challenges into opportunities, helping us make lemonade out of lemons,” said Kathy Teichert.
We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Glazer Family Small Business Fund Grant, the Small Business Administration, and the wonderful neighbors and volunteers who supported our efforts to get back into business. Your support has been invaluable!
Join us in celebrating Gulfside Resort’s 50 years of service and experience the renewed beauty of this family-owned gem, just a short walk to Upham Beach, on St. Pete Beach. We look forward to welcoming guests old and new for many more years to come!
